Frequently asked questions
How many lbf·in is 1 N·m?
1 N·m ≈ 8.8507 lbf·in and ≈ 0.7376 lbf·ft. The other way round, 1 lbf·in ≈ 0.11298 N·m and 1 lbf·ft ≈ 1.3558 N·m.
How do I convert bar to psi?
1 bar = 100 kPa ≈ 14.5038 psi, and 1 psi ≈ 0.068948 bar. A 6 bar compressed-air line is ≈ 87.02 psi.
How do I convert rpm to rad/s?
ω [rad/s] = n [rpm] × 2π ÷ 60 ≈ n × 0.10472. For example 3000 rpm ≈ 314.16 rad/s. Power calculations use P [W] = T [N·m] × ω [rad/s] with this unit.
What is the difference between kg·cm² and kg·m²?
1 kg·m² = 10,000 kg·cm². Servo motor catalogues usually give rotor inertia in kg·cm² or as "×10⁻⁴ kg·m²"; these are the same quantity (1 kg·cm² = 1 × 10⁻⁴ kg·m²).
Is lbf·in·s² the same as lb·in²?
No. Both are units of inertia, but lb·in² is mass-based and lbf·in·s² is force-based: 1 lbf·in·s² ≈ 386.09 lb·in² ≈ 0.11298 kg·m². Check which one a US catalogue uses; mixing them up makes the inertia ratio wrong by a factor of about 386.
What is the difference between kgf and N?
kgf is the force standard gravity exerts on 1 kg of mass: 1 kgf = 9.80665 N. Likewise 1 kgf·cm = 0.0980665 N·m and 1 kgf/cm² = 0.980665 bar.
How are temperature differences (ΔT) converted?
The tool converts absolute temperatures. For a temperature difference no offset applies: for ΔT, 1 °C = 1 K = 1.8 °F = 1.8 °R.
How accurate are the results?
The factors are derived from exact international definitions and calculations use double precision. The display is rounded to the significant digits you choose; pick 8 or 10 for more digits.
